Memorial Day Event 2009
May 25th, 2009 GAINESVILLE - Despite gray skies and an occasion sprinkle of rain, hundreds turned out for a Memorial Day observance at Gainesville's Memorial Park Cemetery.
At the event, the Hall County Sheriff's Office disposed of worn American flags and armed Honor Guards kept a 24-hour-vigil.
Leanne Kinney was among those who turned out for the service.
"It was a little bit overwhelming to walk down the hill and see this many people standing here for this service," Kinney said. "It doesn't have the people throwing candy like a parade, but I was moved."
Gainesville Marine Maj. Kevin Jarrard and Riverside Military Academy's President Col. James Benson were both honored during the service.
