Mr. Ben Horace Martin, 81

~~Mr. Ben Horace Martin, age 81, of Oakwood passed away Sunday, May 13, 2018 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center – Gainesville, surrounded by his family.

Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 18, 2018 in the Chapel of Memorial Park South Funeral Home with interment following at Memorial Park South Cemetery.  Rev Bradley Elliott will officiate.  The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Memorial Park South Funeral Home.

Mr. Martin was born July 22, 1936 to the late John Edgar & Hattie Latham Martin in Oakwood.  He was a lifetime resident of Oakwood and was self-employed there as a Poultry Farmer receiving many performance recognition awards throughout his career.  Mr. Martin also installed and repaired curtain equipment for Poultry Farmers for many years because he loved farming and enjoyed the opportunity to meet other farmers throughout the area.  He also loved driving through the Georgia countryside while making what he called his “road calls” to reach his customers.  It would be amiss not to mention how much he adored his family, especially his beloved grandchildren.

Mr. Martin is survived by his wife of over 54 years, Mary Reed Martin of Oakwood; son, Ben Horace Martin, Jr. & wife, Tia Martin of Decatur, Alabama; daughter, Cindy Martin Sidhom & husband, Gerald Sidhom of Hoschton; and grandchildren, Benjamin Horace Martin, III, Mary Cornelia Martin, Garrett George Sidhom and Lauren Mary Sidhom.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John Martin and Leroy Martin; and sisters, Flora Belle Cash and Willonel Goss.
