I remember Dave as an excellent story teller. He would visit with me in my office at Corryton Elementary and after his relating a few "stories" my day vastly improved. Always a delight to be in his company! Sorry to hear the passing of this good friend.

Shirley and family,
So many wonderful memories of when we all were young. I remember sitting on the church steps one night at Calvary. You and David had a spat over something. There was a bunch of us there. Some were suggesting a different girl friend for him. He was getting a little angry. Told them to shut up. If he couldn’t have his Shirley he didn’t want anyone. Rough days ahead but just take it “One Day at a Time “. I love you ❤️ Bobbie Massengill

With a heavy heart, we say goodby to our friend, teaching companion, and high school classmate. David was truly, one of a kind. He was loved and admired by all of his students. We loved teaching together at Lincoln Memorial University, and often ‘filled in’ for one another to accommodate personal schedules. Part of me will always be with David and I was so pleased to be one of his teaching associates. Farewell my friend until we meet again.

David Wetzel gave me my first job at Carter high school and I learned so much from him as an educator but more important than that was learning about character. He was a friend and mentor. I still have a shotgun that I bought from him a lot of years ago. Just a great man.

Dr. Wetzel was one of my education inspiration. I took nearly all of my grad classes under him to learn from his wisdom and life experience. He was a wonderful man and I feel blessed to have had him in my life as a professor. His words and wisdom still guide me today when work with fellow educators.
