Mr. Omer Gene Ownby, 86

            Omer Gene Ownby, Jr. age 86 of Gainesville, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at his residence following an extended illness.

            Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow at 2:00 pm in Statham City Cemetery, Statham, Georgia.  Reverend Ralph Smith and Reverend Wayne Hicks will officiate.  The family will receive friends on Friday, May 11, 2012 from 6 – 9 pm at the funeral home.

            Mr. Ownby was born July 16, 1925 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Omer Gene Ownby, Sr. and Rosa Fannie Daniel Cooper.  He retired from Ivan Allen Office Products with 42 years of service and was a member of First Baptist Church of Roswell.  Gene was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Dolores Elizabeth Sheats Ownby.

            Mr. Ownby is survived by his sons & daughters-in-laws, Scott A. & Shannon Ownby, their children, Allison & Carson of Jamestown, Tennessee, R. Paul & Sabrina Ownby, their children, Laura, Katie, Ryan, Evan, Bryson, Eric & Clinton of Gainesville and David W. & Jeannie Ownby, their son, Jeri Miller of Clayton, North Carolina and sister & brother-in-law, Emily & Reverend Ralph Smith of Decatur.
