Mr. Paul Vernon Syers, age 95, of Gainesville passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014 at his residence, following an extended illness.
Memorial Services will be Sunday, March 16, 2014 at Southern View Chapel in Springfield, Illinois. Rev. Larry Lipka will officiate.
Mr. Syers was born to the late Paul Reame and Gertrude Conklin Syers on May 20, 1918 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He served in the U.S. Army as a Master Sargeant during World War II in England, North Africa and Italy. He graduated from MidWest Bible Institute in St. Louis, Missouri in 1951 and served as a missionary with the Brazil Gospel Fellowship Mission from April 1952 until April 2007, when he retired.
Paul is survived by his wife, Elaine Kennard Syers; his three daughters, Phyllis Pinkston of Duluth, Georgia, Dorcas Robinson of Flowery Branch, Georgia, and Julie Price of Gainesville, Georgia; 6 grandchildren; and one sister.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Antioch Bible Institute fruit and vegetable fund at Brazil Gospel Fellowship Mission, 125 West Ash Street, Springfield, Illinois 62704. This supplies healthy food for the young people studying there to serve the Lord.
