            Alton Royce Pardue, age 76 of Lawrenceville passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at St. Joseph Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia following a sudden illness.

            Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow in Loudsville United Methodist Church Cemetery.  Reverend Jeff Morgan will officiate.  The family will receive friends on Friday, March 5, 2010 from 6 – 9 pm at the funeral home.

            Mr. Pardue was born September 23, 1933 in Gainesville, Georgia to the late John Vinson Pardue and Icie Clark Pardue.  He graduated from Gainesville High School in 1950 and married Sue Webb from New Holland, Georgia on August 29, 1952.  Alton worked for his father’s (John Vinson) Construction Company until 1960, then went to work for Marvin M. Black Company and moved to Atlanta in 1962.  He held the position of General Superintendent and Vice-President for 38 years and later retired from Leslie Contracting Company in 1999. He was instrumental in the construction of many projects in the southeast.  Some of his memorable projects are Park Place on Peachtree Street, the enclosure and addition of 15,000 seats to Sanford Stadium after their National Championship in 1980, and the construction of the Great American Scream Machine at Six Flags over Georgia.  Alton was also instrumental in the construction of four other roller coasters.  The last of the roller coasters that he was involved with was manufactured in Atlanta and then constructed in Japan. Alton will always be remembered for his contributions in the field of construction and his mentoring and leadership of young construction superintendents.  He will be best remembered as loving husband, father, granddad and friend to all.  Alton was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John Vinson Pardue, Jr.  He was a member of Duluth Methodist Church and also a Free Mason with Stone Lodge, New Holland, Georgia. 

            Mr. Pardue is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sue Webb Pardue of Lawrenceville, daughter, Tina Bean of Alpharetta, son & daughter-in-law, Joe & Gail Pardue of Decatur, grandsons, David and John Pardue of Decatur, granddaughter, Blakeley Bean of Alpharetta, his aunt, Mildred Lothridge of Gainesville, sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Marie & Jimmy Faulkner of Dahlonega and sister-in-law, Algene Pardue of Cleveland.
