Marion Horace Godfrey, age 86 of Gainesville, passed away on Friday, April 23, 2010 at BJC Medical Center following a sudden illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, April 25, 2010 at 3:00 pm at Montgomery Memorial Baptist Church with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Darryl Womack, Reverend Terry Rice and Reverend Henry Webb will officiate. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 2 – 9 pm at the funeral home.
Mr. Godfrey was born September 7, 1923 in Gainesville, Georgia to the late William Horace Godfrey and Lena Manus Godfrey. He was retired from Milliken Mills with 60 years of service and served 4 years in the Army Air Force as a airplane mechanic. Horace was a member of Montgomery Memorial Baptist Church, where he was also a member of the Brotherhood. He was a deacon and song leader at Pleasant Union Baptist Church and Faith Baptist Church. Horace was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who cared deeply for his beloved wife, children and grandchildren. He brought his children up in a Christian home, carrying them to church every opportunity he could. Horace was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Faye Adams Godfrey, his brother, John Godfrey, his sisters, Theo Black, Catherine Elliott, Sarah Gilmer, Willie Mae Philyaw and Ethelene Godfrey
Mr. Godfrey is survived by his son & daughter-in-law, Hillyer & Polly Godfrey of Maysville, daughter & son-in-law, Hilda & Jimmy Stanford of Clermont, daughters, Cathy Cornett and Emily Abernathy, both of Gainesville, grandchildren, Christopher Satterfield, Michelle Madden, Carla Cornett, Melissa Dowdy, Marie Godfrey, Mandy Howard and Megan Abernathy, great-grandchildren, Laci, Ethan & Evan Satterfield, Patrick Madden and Nathan Howard, special friends, Jeff & Kathy Lee and T.J. & Grace Kemp and a host of nieces and nephews.
