Brooks L. Benton
I have known Miss Burgeson for approximately 8 years. Miss Burgeson was a hard worker who believed in helping people and completing the job. She was not a complainer or disrupter. We pray for you during your time of bereavement and ask God to cover you all with his comfort during this time.

I loved Melissa like a part of my family. I was her Mental Health counselor and friend at LASP. She and I had a special bond and my heart is hurting today. She is free in heaven now! She wanted to get out of prison to be with her family. But, God had another plan. She is at peace now.
Prayers and fond memories are what have to remember

I got to know Melissa through Kairos Prison Ministry. I have heard from many people about what a positive influence she was in the prison. She could be counted on to be honest and faithful. Inmates, staff, and volunteers will miss her steady presence. Melissa, you are free at last.

Although we never met, it is clear that you will be missed, we pray for peace and comfort for your loved ones left behind and hope they take solace in the joy you must be experiencing now that you are free with your Heavenly father.
Rest in peace Missy .. You will be missed!!
To all who have reached out to us .. Thank you.. I've learned that Missy was loved by many and I know that she loved each of us deeply and sincerely... She touched a lot of people and each of those people left something with her that she carried with her everyday... Your kind words and prayers are much appreciated and to me a testament of who Missy was... Our family finds solace in knowing that she's back in mom's arms and free and I can see her smiling in my minds eyes... I hold on to that ... I hope you all find comfort in that thought as well... Thank you...
A sad day. I will always remember you as a sweet kid with a great sense of humor. My deepest sympathy and condolences to your friends and family. Rest in peace cousin Missy.

Praying for peace to rest upon you - sister's from Pulaski prison.
My condolences for the family and friends of "poppie" not papp or whatever I read above. I lived with her in E-1 from 4-18-16 until 1-15-18. And although she was quite the loner in the dorm, (except during football) she noticed me only a couple days after I was there, my daddy passed. In her way she expressed her understanding. Quietly. Some time later she started giving me bible devotionals, the good ones only certain women can get a hold of. She came down everyday and drank her coffee and read devotions at the table across from me. She was a woman of few words. So one morning when we were out only her and me maybe 1 or 2 others the officer called her to retrieve mail she had missed from the night before. I went on reading when I was startled by a loud moan and sob from her, she almost fell to her knees. She made it to the table. I left her alone. She was gasping for breath. I still stayed seated and at a distance. Finally she let me know it's ok to come over. So the letter was from her victims family! I'm not sure of the contacts but from there on out. We had an unspoken friendship. Thank God for forgiveness folks. R.I.P. poppies. Your kitties are fine.
Psalm 23 I read and was reminded of her 2 day.
Bonnie... I'm Melissa's sister... Just wanted to say thank you for sharing... I believe.. with your few words.. that you knew her well.. I know she thought of y'all like family... She had a heart like no other... Big as she was!!! I've been wondering about her kitties.. It comforts me to know they're ok... God Bless you!!
She was the best friend I've ever had, I could talk to her about anything and everything and I miss her dearly
I knew Melissa as a teenager. She was sweet. I was sorry many years ago when I heard what happened. Her mother that raised her was a hard working and kind woman. There is an article in the Macon Telegraph today. The victims mother forgave her. That's wonderful peace.
I just saw today that Melissa had passed away. I only knew her from the crime and keeping up with the trial. To know her now through each of the words written above gives me new perspective in to people who make mistakes and sometimes make huge mistakes. Rest in peace Poppie. Free at last and I only learned of your passing because your victims mother was interviewed. She can't stop crying at the loss of your life so young. She had forgiven and was hoping you would be able to be free one day. God is good. Fly high!
Let's remember Keith Young as we discuss Melissa. Anything else would be an outrage.
Melissa was a changed person who offered the best advice to the younger girls in the prison. She walked in integrity each day and had finally found a way to forgive herself for her past. I know without a doubt that Melissa is in Heaven and even though I would have loved seeing her free out here I know she is free in Heaven. Football was sad for me this year and your love for the cats I carry with me too. RIP my beautiful friend I love you and miss you
I knew her in prison as poppi. She was very good to me. I miss her very much. She is a beautiful person inside and out.
