Free Chapel - Gainesville
3001 McEver Road Gainesville, GA 30504
Mrs. Theresa Ann Rogers, 58
Theresa was born in Gary, Indiana on October 19, 1963 and was raised in Racine County, Wisconsin. After high school she attended Tennessee Temple University in Tennessee and Biola University in Southern California. Throughout the 80s she sang at churches and events and was very involved in young adult ministry at Crescent Avenue Baptist Church in Anaheim, California. She also helped plant two churches: Chaparral Community Church in Diamond Bar, California and Main Place Fellowship in Santa Ana, California. It was at Main Place Christian Fellowship that Theresa met and eventually married her husband Rich Rogers in June of 1992. Theresa and Rich celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary this past June.
Theresa and Rich spent most of the 90s attending Mariners Church in Irvine, California where Theresa served on the worship team. She also gave birth to three daughters, Lexi (94), Rachel (96), and Mackenzie (98) while being a Mater Dei football wife. Between church, raising three daughters, and being a part of the Mater Dei family, these years would be some of the most memorable years of her young marriage.
In 2001 her family launched out into what they would call their “great adventure.” Over the next ten years the family lived in Iowa for two amazing years, Theresa as a music student and Rich as a professor at Graceland University. After two years, the family moved to Alpharetta, Georgia where she and Rich served at Bridgeway Christian School—Theresa as the Elementary Music Director and Rich as the Head of School. While working at Bridgeway, the family began attending Free Chapel in Gainesville, Georgia in 2003 and had baby number 4, Skylar Grace, in 2004. Rich was brought on staff full time at Free Chapel in January of 2005. Then, in 2007, the adventure came full circle when the leadership at Free Chapel asked the Rogers family to help plant the Free Chapel OC Campus, a campus that is still thriving today. Over the next several years Theresa served in the worship ministry before going to work full time at KBRT, a Christian radio station in Costa Mesa, California.
In 2014, Theresa was diagnosed with stage 3B bilateral breast cancer and, after a three-year battle, went into remission in 2016, the same year the family moved back to Gainesville, Georgia to serve again at the Free Chapel Gainesville and Free Chapel Spartanburg campuses. Theresa eventually came on staff at Free Chapel serving with Sister Katie Franklin in the Senior ministry. In April of 2021, the cancer returned and Theresa was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, this time in her stomach. After a courageous 17-month battle, she passed peacefully on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 in the presence of her family and dearest of friends and went home to be with Jesus.
Theresa is preceded in death by her son Michael, and survived by her husband of 30 years, Rich and her four daughters: Lexi, Rachel, Mackenzie, and Skylar. She is also preceded in death by her father Willis, mother Rosalyn, and two brothers, John and Wayne. She is survived by her two brothers Joe and Russ and sisters-in-law Linda, Terri, Vicki, and Cheree and numerous nieces and nephews she adored.
Following the service in Irvine California, Theresa will be laid to rest at Eternal Valley Cemetery in Santa Clarita, California, the same place where her son Michael is buried.
