Andrew Yates Obituary

Mr. Andrew “Merle” Yates, age 74 of Hoschton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 21, 2026. He was born in Fairmont, WV to his loving parents Grant Hale Yates and Nellie Hope Yates. Merle shared a beautiful and blessed marriage with his wife, Peggy, for 54 years.  He was the proud father of Stephanie Yates Patsel (Dean Patsel-husband) and Andrew Adam Yates (Ashley Yates-wife).  He was a beloved “Granddaddy” to nine grandchildren-Hailey, Cole, Lorelei, Maddie, Annabelle, Emmyrose, David, Brandon, and Austin.

For the last 21 years of his career, Merle served as the plant manager for Golden Peanut Company at the Aulander, North Carolina peanut processing plant. 

Merle was known for his unwavering faith in God, his devotion to Peggy and his children, and his strong work ethic.  He had a wonderful sense of humor and was loved by all.  Merle made a lasting impact on everyone he met.  He was an honorable, trustworthy, loving, and unselfish man who put others before himself at all times. 

During retirement Merle enjoyed golf, pickleball, bocce, bunco, bowling, cards and visiting with his neighbors. 

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, April 12 at Celebration Church at 3:00 pm.  Celebration Church is located at 5560 Thompson Mill Road, Hoschton, GA 30548.  Everyone is invited to visit with the family following the service at the home of Peggy Yates at 5917 Deerbrook Court, Hoschton, GA. 

Merle will be deeply missed by all who knew him and especially by his family.
