Barbara Workman DeArmond, 92, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on September 2, 2025.
She was born on June 23, 1933, in Elkton, Virginia, to the late Harold Alexander Workman and Helen Frazee Workman. Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Hollis Turner DeArmond; her son, Michael David DeArmond; her parents, Harold and Helen Workman; her three brothers, Harold, Norman, and Doug Workman; and her son-in-law, Adrian Chappell, Jr.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Yvonne DeArmond Chappell; cherished granddaughter, Whitney Jessica Chappell; sister-in-law, Betty Workman; and many nieces and nephews.
Barbara lived a life of devotion to her family and of service to others. She volunteered for many years at Good News at Noon in Gainesville, where she faithfully served those in need. She was known for her kindness, generosity, and strong faith. She loved the outdoors, especially gardening and landscaping, and took great joy in creating beautiful spaces around her home. Her love for animals was evident, as she always cared for cats, dogs, and horses throughout her life. Her bright spirit, beautiful smile, and unwavering dedication to helping others will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 12, at Memorial Park Riverside Chapel in Gainesville. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. Barbara will be laid to rest at Oconee Hills Cemetery in Athens, where she will rest beside her husband and son-in-law
