Barbara Garrett, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully this morning in her home.
Born in Elmira, New York, Barbara later moved with her family to Long Beach, California. She married the love of her life, Tony Garrett, in 1970, and together they made their home in Georgia, where they raised their family and built a life filled with love, hard work, and dedication to others.
Throughout her life, Barbara remained deeply dedicated to serving the Lord, living out her faith with humility, joy, and unwavering commitment. She worked in a hospital, at Kroger, and as a bus driver for both Hall County schools and Lakeview Academy. She touched many lives through her service and her kind, steady presence.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Geraldine and Jesse Austin; and her brothers, Joe, Albert, and David Austin.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Tony Garrett; her children, Brent and Shea Garrett and Brigette and Eric Meeler; her grandchildren, Brycen, Hudson, Corban (Brooke), and Hannah (Bryson); and her great-grandchildren, Donnie and Zane. She is also survived by her siblings, James and Phyllis Austin, Alice and Bob Venhaus, and Danny and Gale Austin, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 18th, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 5:00–7:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow on Sunday, April 19th, at 4:00 p.m. at Free Chapel (Gainesville campus).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Beyond Dementia Coalition Fund at the North Georgia Community Foundation. Barbara’s warmth, strength, unwavering love for her family, and faithful service to the Lord will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May she rest in peace.
