Bruce and Martha Jones

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Bruce Crymes Jones announces Bruce’s passing on January 22, 2023, at the age of 91 and Martha’s passing on November 13, 2020 at the age of 89.    They were married for 69 years.

 Bruce and Martha were devoted to their faith and to their church. They always had a church family wherever they lived. Growing up, church and Sunday school were always a part of who we were, and yes, “MYF” on Sunday nights for all of us kids was a commandment! Mom and Dad didn’t just attend church; they were involved. Teaching, volunteering, and even serving in leadership roles highlighted their commitment. After retirement, they moved to Gainesville, Georgia, and became very active in the Gainesville First United Methodist Church. They loved their Sunday school class, the Emmanuel class, and there they met many dear friends that became such an important part of their lives in their senior years. Not only did they meet together at church, but they became social friends and shared many good times together—from trips, to meals out, to game nights. We all learned about “Chickenfoot” night, and some of us even learned to play the game. We enjoyed playing with Mom and Dad. Mom was a fierce competitor. Dad was sneaky good, and I remember him winning quietly, but more often than the rest of us.

A memorial service for Bruce and Martha will be held Saturday, February 11 at 2 p. m. in the Chapel of Gainesville First United Methodist Church.   Rev. Jamey Pricket and Rev. Kathy Lamon will officiate.  There will be a reception after the service in the Reception Hall.

 In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to honor Bruce and Martha be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
