Buell Martin Buffington beloved mom, grandmother and great grandmother left this earth for her heavenly home on Monday, November 3, 2025. Buell was married to Obourn Lonnie for forty-seven years when he passed in 2001.
Buell had a full life raising six children. Kathy, Beverly, Christy, Anita, Reggie and Kelly.
Buell had seven grandchildren: Harold Jackson Latimer (Boo) and Joshua Latimer, Lindsey Elrod Strickland, Mark and Thomas Skinner, Sgt. Draven Jacobs and Kori Kline.
Seven great-grandchildren are also a part of the family history: Kamen and Brooklyn Latimer, Lincoln Bell, Beaux, Jakob, Skylar, and Kori Strickland.
Buell is also survived by two sisters, Pat Hall and Winnell Fote; son- in-law, Jim Skinnerand; a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews; and special family friends, Terri Pendley Greene and Steve Dunfee.
Those preceding Buell’s death is husband Obourn Lonnie Buffington. Children, Kelly Buffington Kline and Reginald Obourn Buffington. Grandsons, Harold Jackson III and Joshua Wilkes Latimer. Parents: Hoke and Annie Mae Martin.
Buell’s life was always busy with family. Raising kids, always being a partner with dad at Buffington’s Lawn and Garden, baking and cooking, working in the garden with Hoke and Annie Mae, family reunions, and church were all part of our family life. Buell was a member of Cool Springs Baptist Church since she was a child with a few years’ departure to Antioch Methodist Church where her husband and children were members.
Lanier Park Hospital was where Buell retired. She had many lifelong friends there as well as her beloved bowling leagues she participated in for so many years. Buell enjoyed bowling in several leagues and was quite good at it! Couples’ leagues were also something both mom and dad enjoyed. Other favorite things were watching her “stories”, westerns, the Antique Road Show and the Atlanta Braves!
Another remarkable thing about Buell’s life was that she lived most of her 90 years within 300 yards of where she was raised on Cool Springs Road!
Buell was a proud 1953 graduate of Sardis High School. She cherished her class ring so much that she wore it for over 70 years! Go Bobcats! She was the valedictorian of her class.
On April 10, 1954, Buell married the love of her life, Obourn Lonnie Buffington. She met him at the Hall County Hospital while recovering from a horrendous car accident that took the life of her little brother, Wayne. Obourn’s dad, Frank was also in the hospital recovering from a serious accident of his own. Mom would watch dad “spin into the hospital parking lot on two wheels” and would scold him daily as he stopped by her room.
Buell’s life was full of motion for almost 88 years. The motion begins to cease in 2024 and by her 90th birthday on October 3, 2025 her time on earth was nearing the end. In 2024 she entered the Resting Nest, and we would like to thank Dawn, Brandi, Bryson, Niqua, Phyllis and Shannon. We know many of them came to love Mom. Also, the Hospice group who was involved Pruitt Health Care and Susan and Angie was very much appreciated.
The time has come for her to earn her heavenly home after so much life has been lived in the service of her family. Without a doubt the family knows she heard, “Well done my good and faithful servant” as she entered those pearly gates.
