 Callier Daniel “Danny” Dunagan, Jr.

Celebration of life will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, October 26, 2025 at Gainesville First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Born on March 17, 1950, in Gainesville, he was preceded in death by his parents, Margie Ree (Nalley) and Callier Daniel “Dot” Dunagan, Sr., and his brother, Stanley Lamar Dunagan.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Mary Lee (Smith) Dunagan; children, Mary-Rollins Dunagan (Dave Johnson) and Callier Daniel “Trip” Dunagan, III; grandchildren, Milton Daniel “Mills” Lothridge, Isabella “Bella” Annalee Dunagan, and Nelle-Kate Ree Lothridge; brother, Lanny (Diane) Dunagan; nephew, Paden Dunagan, and niece Mary Beth (Cornett) Alexander —all of Gainesville.

A proud graduate of Gainesville High School, Danny began his career working with Boyd Butler at the Gulf Station before founding 3 D Cleaners in 1978, where he worked diligently until his retirement in 2025.

Danny’s dedication to his hometown was unwavering. First elected to the Gainesville City Council in 2006, he made history as the city’s first elected mayor in 2013, serving two terms and later returning to the council in 2021 until his recent resignation due to health. His leadership was marked by integrity, humility, and a deep love for the community in which he was raised and served.

Those who knew Danny will remember his gentle spirit, his encouraging nature, and his ever-present warm smile. Above all, his greatest joy was his family, whom he loved unconditionally. Gainesville has lost one of its finest, but his legacy of service, kindness, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the Lake Lanier Olympic Park Foundation, P.O. Box 369, Gainesville, Georgia, 30503.
