Cathy was born in Altoona, PA on March 15, 1958, the daughter of the late Ceeber E. and Mary June (Corle) Ake. She lived in Blue Knob Pennsylvania until the family moved to Merritt Island, FL in 1963. Cathy grew up in Merritt Island, graduating from Merritt Island High School. Throughout school Cathy was a part of band programs where she excelled winning multiple honors playing the clarinet.

Cathy’s career in education spanned decades and four states where she continually progressed her career where she fought tirelessly to advocate for teachers because she believed in education and helping people to achieve the best version of themselves. Cathy’s longest tenure was with Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA) of 37 years where she retired and moved to Maryland to work at MSEA where she achieved the position of Assistant Executive Director for Organized Advocacy.
