On May 12, 2026, George Cecil Robinson passed away peacefully at home with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents George Cecil Robinson, Sr. and Blanche Robinson; his sisters Louise Harvey and Bobbie Manspile.
He is survived by his loving wife Josie Robinson; his three daughters Julie Robards (Rodney), Karen Keen (Mickey) and Kristie Whelchel (Joey); his grandchildren Ashley Tipton (Hunter), Tori Phillips (Derek), Michael Keen (Katie), Kennedy Holbert (Corey), Avery Webster (Mary), Hattie Henry (Tyler), and Tate Robards; his great-grandchildren Roman Phillips, Lynnleigh Phillips, and Henry Cecil Webster; his sister Betty Thompson; several nieces and nephews; and countless beloved friends and extended family members.
Cecil was born in Newport News, Virginia on September 27, 1945. He graduated from Hampton High School and attended Wake Forest University on a baseball scholarship.
He met the love of his life, Josie, in 1964 and together they enjoyed 61 years of loving marriage.
In 1964, Cecil joined the Boston Red Sox as a pitcher, beginning his seven-year career with the organization. Cecil retired from baseball to focus on his family and served the remainder of his career in the logistics industry.
Cecil and Josie were covenant members of CrossPointe Church in Duluth, GA. He remained active in his small group, chaired the parking committee, and served as a deacon and usher.
Through all of his health trials, he never complained. His positive, kind attitude endeared him to all of his caretakers, whom his family is forever grateful for.
In 2014, Cecil became a heart transplant recipient. Having experienced this medical miracle, Cecil always believed his true heart transplant happened the day he gave his life to Jesus Christ.
Cecil was a deeply loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be dearly missed by everyone who had the chance to know and love him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 30, 2026 at Cross Pointe Church in Duluth, GA. Dr. James G. Merritt will officiate.
