Christina Louise Walker Whitaker (Christy), age 68, passed away on February 18, 2026, after facing several serious and protracted health issues.
She was born on November 17, 1957, in Atlanta, GA, a daughter of the late Hazel McGee Livingston and the late William John Walker. Christy and her brother Andy grew up in Gainesville, GA, where she graduated from Gainesville High School. After attending Gainesville Junior College, she moved to Athens to study at the University of Georgia, graduating with a degree in Fashion Merchandising.
Christy enjoyed a successful 13-year career in sales and later worked as a paraprofessional for 11 years at several elementary schools in the Athens area. Christy loved being a mother, and her daughter Kaitlin (Katie) was the pride and joy of her life. Known for her outgoing personality and humor, Christy never met a stranger without befriending them.
Christy is survived by her daughter Katie Whitehouse, son-in-law Seth Whitehouse, brother Andy Walker, sister-in-law Janet Walker, aunt Sandy Holland, numerous cousins, and many beloved friends.
A private service will be held in March at Grace Episcopal Church in Gainesville. A celebration of life in Athens will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to honor Christy’s passion for reading and teaching children by donating to or getting involved with Books for Keeps. Christy loved watching her students fill their backpacks with new and free books when this non-profit organization visited the schools.
