Remembering David Wells Hubbard
July 15, 1947-October 23, 2025
David Wells Hubbard, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and pioneering technology executive, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
David was born on July 15, 1947, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to the late Donald Wells and Judy Preiss Hubbard. After graduating from the University of Alabama with a BS in mathematics, he married his high school sweetheart, Judith Creighton. Their partnership was based on Christ and defined by devotion, support, friendship, and love.
David’s distinguished professional career began at IBM, where he helped develop the point-of-sale terminal for grocery stores in Europe. His talent for innovation and leadership led to his recruitment by Southern Bell, a predecessor company of AT&T, to build their computer data technology company. Following AT&T's acquisition of NCR and Teradata, David helped the company grow its global presence in computer data technology. After a long and successful career, he retired in 2014.
Despite his demanding travel schedule, David’s true priority was his family. As the father of two daughters, Wendy Hubbard Stewart and Emily Hubbard Nelson, he made every effort to be present in their lives. Nothing brought him greater happiness than his four grandchildren: Lily and Piper Stewart, and Luke and Grady Nelson.
David lived a life of deep faith and service. He served as an elder in the Presbyterian Church, led Sunday School, Bible Studies, met weekly with his prayer partner, and had a lifelong passion for mission work. His commitment to missions took him on repeat trips to Canada and New York. He also volunteered his time locally, building homes for Habitat for Humanity and Sheds of Hope.
David loved cars, cheering on the Crimson Tide, woodworking, and gardening.
