Dawn Nolene Miller Hurley, born August 7, 1948, in Washington, DC, to Nolen and Rozelle Miller, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Dawn lived in Washington, DC, Texas, and Maryland before making Georgia her home for the past 27 years.
She was the beloved wife of the late Ralph Nelson "Buz" Hurley, who preceded her in death ten years ago. Dawn is also preceded in death by her parents, Nolen and Rozelle Miller. She is survived by her children, Michael Hurley (Angela), Shannan Wayne (Alex), and Samantha Hurley; her seven cherished grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Sharon Sullivan and Gayle Remington (David).
Dawn devoted countless hours to North Point Community Church in Alpharetta, GA, where she founded the copy editing department—a detail that endeared her to all who knew her as the ultimate Grammar Queen. She also led youth ministries, served as a counselor at Damascus High School in Damascus, MD, and coached cheerleading squads. Before her cancer diagnosis, she loved playing doubles tennis with Buz.
Her generosity, unconditional love, and gift for making everyone feel welcome defined her life. Dawn was known for her sweet disposition, remarkable intellect, and uncanny knack for knowing every Jeopardy clue and Trivial Pursuit answer. She loved playing cards and games with family, where laughter and friendly competition filled the room. Her true legacy is the warmth, inclusion, and love she shared with everyone she met—a beautiful reflection of her Heavenly Father's love here on Earth.
Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find peace knowing Dawn is reunited with her beloved Buz, undoubtedly "hand dancing" together in heaven. She never found another dance partner who could compare to Buz's swagger.
A service will be held at Browns Bridge Church (3860 Browns Bridge Rd) on December 16, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., in Cumming, GA.
