Deborah Jean Merck, born March 4, 1957, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior following a brave and faithful battle with bone and lung cancer. While her passing brings deep sorrow to those who loved her, her family finds comfort and hope in the assurance that she is now fully healed and at peace in Heaven.
Deborah is survived by her brothers, Terry (Rebecca) Merck, Timothy Merck, Todd Merck, and Daniel Merck, and by her sister, Corlissa (Fred) Souther, along with a cherished host of nieces, nephews, and great‑nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Jean Merck, her father, James “Jim” Lester Merck, and nephew, Steven Souther. She was a devoted sister and aunt, and a treasured friend whose presence will be deeply missed by her family and all who were blessed to know her.
Deborah grew up in New Holland and attended East Hall High School and spent many years as a dedicated employee at Guilford Mills until its closure. Deborah later worked at Lowe’s and Dollar General, where she continued to serve faithfully until her retirement.
Deborah was a woman of deep and abiding faith whose life reflected the love of Christ. She was dearly loved by all who knew her and was known for her selflessness, kindness, and compassion. Living with a true servant’s heart, Deborah consistently put others before herself, offering encouragement and love without expectation of return. Her strength and grace, even in the midst of suffering, stood as a powerful testimony to her unwavering trust in God’s promises.
The family takes comfort in God’s Word and in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ. As love, and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind until the day they are reunited in glory.
