Donn DuTeau Obituary

Donn Ray DuTeau, 71, of Augusta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 16, 1954, Donn was the beloved son of the late John Louis DuTeau and Clara Grady DuTeau.

He is preceded in death by his parents and survived by his brothers John Russell DuTeau (Mary Ann), Gary DuTeau (Sandy), and Randy DuTeau (Chele).

A devoted son, brother, and uncle, Donn lived a life defined by service, creativity, and passion. He joined the United States Air Force in 1974, serving as a Weapon Control Systems Specialist. After his military service, Donn pursued his lifelong love of food and culture, studying the art of French cuisine and training many notable chefs along the way.

He went on to become the founder and owner of Le Café DuTeau (formerly Le Café Naturel), a celebrated Augusta institution for over 30 years. The restaurant was known not only for its exquisite French-inspired dishes but also for its live jazz, warm hospitality, and refined atmosphere—a true reflection of Donn’s taste and spirit.

An adventurer at heart, Donn traveled widely to hone his craft, finding inspiration in the kitchens and cultures of France, Costa Rica, and Brazil. In later years, he continued sharing his love of fine food and wine through Savoir Faire Wine Tours & Taxi, combining his culinary expertise with his gift for connection and storytelling.

Those who knew Donn will remember his wit, sophistication, and generosity—the same qualities that made every meal he served and every journey he took unforgettable.

Donn most recently made his home in Dahlonega, Georgia, where he enjoyed the beauty and peace of the North Georgia Mountains.
