Dr. Frank G. Lake, III, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed Sunday, July 5, 2026, at home surrounded by family.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Gainesville First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, July 6, 1941, to the late Frank G. Lake, Jr. and Frances (Shealy) Lake.
Dr. Lake is survived by his Cherished wife Jane, with whom he celebrated their 51st . Wedding anniversary recently. He is also survived by his three sons, Andrew Lake (Leena), Jason Lake (Ryan), Frank Lake IV (Dee) and six grandchildren: Frank Lake V, Jackson Lake, Kiran Lake, Devan Lake, Owen Bailey and Emma Lake; and his sister, Irene Lake Haight.
Dr. Lake attended Emory University and graduated from Emory Medical School receiving his MD degree in 1967. Following two years of internal medicine training at Grady Hospital, he entered the United States Air Force as a Flight Surgeon and served for two years, including one year in Vietnam. He returned to Emory University and completed residency in Therapeutic Radiology, completing that in 1975. He founded the Radiology Department and the Hospice Program at Northeast Georgia Medical Center He was offered the medical directorship of the newly formed Therapeutic Radiology Department and served for 45 years. In 1986 Northeast Georgia Medical Center opened its Hospice program and he again was offered the medical directorship and served it for 35 years.
Dr. Lake received awards as specialist of the year both from the local county societies and also medical societies in Atlanta, Georgia. He also received lifetime achievement award in medicine from the Hall County Chamber of Commerce. In 2025, he received the Chairman’s award for medical center’s employed physicians.

Lake, III, M.D. Scholarship Fund at the North Georgia Community Foundation. This scholarship supports continuing education in the important field of hospice and palliative medicine.
