Wilbur Arthur Dellinger
Doc, Dr. D. or Sonny to his family
Doc ascended to the great hunting ground in Heaven on January 6, 2026. He was born at home in Linville Falls, NC on Nov. 19, 1937, to Arthur and Zulia Dellinger, the last of nine children.
Working on the farm with chickens and sheep and fishing on the Linville River in his front yard, he was destined to care for animals.
After attending Lees McRae and NC State, he moved to Savannah to live with his sister, Rosalie, to gain residency in the State of Georgia to attend the University of Georgia Veterinarian School. That is where he met Bevelyn, his forever angel. They got married on March 26, 1959, and moved to Athens.
After graduating in 1965, the family moved to Gainesville, GA with a job at a Poultry company. He built a house on Poplar Springs Road in 1967 and hung out a sign advertising veterinarian work after hours. He gained enough business to open South Hall Veterinary Hospital in 1972. His specialty was large animal, small animal and any wildlife brought in by the Department of Natural Resources.
He worked closely with DNR, and he was awarded the Hunter Safety Instructor of the Year in 1982.
He helped establish both the Ducks Unlimited and Quail Unlimited chapters for the State of Georgia.
After retirement, he spent his time raising and selling German Shorthair Pointers and Brittanys which were sold throughout the country and internationally.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Bevelyn. Doc and Bev.
He leaves behind his son, Allen (Rhonda) Dellinger, daughter, April Dellinger, and several grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
Many thanks to the caregivers at Cedarhurst, Northeast Georgia Hospice and a special thanks to our brown angel, Maria Santos, who has been with our family for ten years.
Love to all that love the man we knew as daddy.
