Edgar Henry Chambers, Jr. (“Eddie”), 95, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026, in Gainesville, Georgia.

A funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Memorial Park Riverside Chapel at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends after the service. Rev. Bruce Fields will officiate the service. Interment will be in Alta Vista Cemetery.

Eddie was born on March 10, 1931, in Gainesville, Georgia. Growing up on Green Street Circle, Eddie embraced his industrious nature at a young age by raising chickens and selling eggs to his neighbors. He graduated from Gainesville High School in 1948 before attending the Georgia Institute of Technology. After graduating from Georgia Tech in 1953, Eddie served in the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant in Korea. Following his service, Eddie returned to Gainesville and joined his father at Chambers Lumber Company as the third generation in the family business, eventually leading as president until his retirement in 1998.

On August 16, 1952, Eddie married Betty Ann Christopher of Greenville, South Carolina. Eddie was a devoted husband and father. They met while Betty Ann was a student at Brenau. The two were married for 73 years.  

Eddie is survived by his wife Betty Ann Chambers, sons Michael L. Chambers (Sabra), and E. Henry Chambers, III, and daughters Cynthia C. Collins (Sam), and Susan C. LeFevre (Tom). He was the beloved grandfather of 10 grandchildren and great-grandfather of 12 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Henry Chambers, Sr., and Sara Gaines Chambers, his sister Mary Chambers Couch, and his granddaughter Chelsea Anne Collins.

Eddie held a genuine love for Gainesville and his community, often saying “why would you want to live anywhere else?” Over the decades, his contributions included member of First Baptist Church (past chairman of Deacons, member of Anglers Sunday School Class), past president of Gainesville Kiwanis Club (recipient of Youth Service Award; Legacy Award), past president of the Chattahoochee Country Club, past board member of the Hall County Chamber of Commerce, past president of Building Material Merchants Association of Georgia, past board chairman of the Salvation Army, past district chairman of Boy Scouts of America (former Eagle Scout, Silver Beaver Award), member of the Community Chest (predecessor of United Way), past chairman of Georgia First Bank, former board member of Century South Bank, former board member of Northeast Georgia History Center.
