Edwin Ronald Gurta

Edwin “Ron” Gurta, 89, of Gainesville, Georgia, beloved husband of Barbara (Wilson) Gurta, passed away peacefully at home on September 11, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Born on February 27, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan, Ron was the son of Anthony and Lottie (Dombrowski) Gurta.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Barbara (Wilson) Gurta. He is also survived by his three children: Kenneth Gurta (wife Crystal) of Hoschton, GA; Lisa Martin (husband Jeff) of Lawrenceville, GA; and Michael Gurta (wife Gaylin) of Buford, GA. He also was very proud of his six grandchildren - Jennifer Russell, Madison Holsombeck (husband Gage), Kelsey Oxley, Amilyn Gurta, Noah Gurta, and Cody Martin and two great-grandchildren. Ron was preceded in death by his mother, Lottie; his brother, Daniel; and his sisters, Barbara and Dolores.

Ron spent 28 years as a paint supervisor with the Ford Motor Company. He was an active member of the Greenville Power Squadron and enjoyed many years of boating on Lake Hartwell. After retiring, he founded the Lions Club in Navarre, Florida, and volunteered at Gulf Breeze Baptist Hospital as well as with the Holly-by-the-Sea Boys Fishing Club. In his later years, Ron boated along the Florida panhandle before turning to RV travel and becoming a member of the Pensacola RV Club.

He will be remembered for his humor, his kindness, and the love he shared with his family and all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held on September 27, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 600 S Enota Dr NE, Gainesville, GA 30501. Friends and family are invited to attend and celebrate his life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the discretionary fund at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in memory of Ron Gurta.
