James David Allred

James David Allred was born on September 21, 1948, in Gainesville, GA to Jack and Billie Jean Allred.  He passed away on June 22, 2026, at age 77.  He was the middle child and brother to the late Sidney (Debbie) Allred of St. Augustine, FL and the late Jackie Allred Cooley of Gainesville, GA.  David was a 1968 graduate of Gainesville High School.  After high school, he served in the Air Force in Japan and South Dakota during the Vietnam War.  When he returned home from the military, he attended and later graduated from Gainesville College.

David was a wonderful father to his only child, Andy (Kelli) Allred of Gainesville, and a loving and proud grandfather to his 2 granddaughters, Maricarter and Addison.  He also loved being an uncle to Clay Allred and Amber (Justin) Allred Woods.

With a tender, quiet nature, you could find him in his prime years camping by a creek, trout fishing, or kayaking down a river.  He loved being outdoors and hiking various stretches of the Appalachian Trail.  When hiking with his family, he was known for stretching the truth and telling them, “oh, just another half a mile or so!”

Andy has fond memories of his dad coming up with creative weekend activities, like visiting Gainesville’s Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport and the local train station just waiting and watching the planes and trains come and go.  He also looked forward to their annual ski trips on Christmas Day out West with their close family friends.

Visitation for David will be on Tuesday, June 30 from 5:00-7:00pm at Memorial Park North Funeral Home (989 Riverside Dr, Gainesville).  A private Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held at a future date.
