Mr. James (Jim) Robert Melvin, age 76 of Flowery Branch, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 11, 2026 at Memorial Park South Chapel. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. prior to the service at Memorial Park South Funeral Home.
Jim was born on June 4, 1949 to the late Robert L. Melvin and Laura Mae McGary Melvin in Sullivan, Indiana.
He graduated from Purdue University’s Krannert School of Management and was a Life Member of the Purdue Alumni Association.
Early on, Jim was an avid runner and completed the 1991 San Francisco Marathon. His love for all things computers and tech was second to none and he enjoyed sharing his knowledge of pivot tables with anyone who would listen. A huge fan of college football, Jim would never let an opportunity go by to cheer on the Purdue Boilermakers.
Jim retired in 2019 after 45+ years with Bechtel Corporation in Project Controls working across multiple line of business in the U.S. and overseas. His initial assignment was in the San Francisco office as a cost engineer, extending to his role as the planning manager for a project in the UK, and ending as a lead planner for a project in Oak Ridge, TN.
Jim is survived by his wife, four sons, a daughter, five grandchildren, a sister, two brothers, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends, including his best furry friend, Blu.
He will be remembered for his quirkiness, quick wit, and endless “Jimisms.” His favorite line was “Any day I learn something new is a good day.”
