Jean M. (Walker) Tucker passed away peacefully at 96 years of age on March 27, 2026, in Gainesville, GA (formally of Essex Junction, VT). She was born on May 3,1929 in Stowe, VT and was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Jean was the daughter of the late Hayes B. Walker and Gladys A. (Smith) Walker. She is predeceased by her husband Ray E. Tucker, and her five siblings - Eleanor Ginnett, Harold Walker, Robert Walker, Janice Hill, and Colene Dolan.
She is survived by her daughter, Veronica Learned and husband Girard Learned of Gainesville, GA, her 3 grandchildren - Aaron Learned of Gainesville, GA, Joshua Learned (Nicole) of Sutton, MA, and Amanda (Thomas) Boucher of Cambridge, MA, 3 great-grandchildren Wyatt Learned, Thomas Boucher VI, and Saige Boucher, and many nieces and nephews.
Jean graduated from Stowe High School in 1947 and Johnson State College in 1951. She was a devoted grade two teacher in the Essex Junction, Vermont school district for 35 years. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church and also a volunteer at the Heavenly Cents Thrift Shop (in Essex Junction, Vermont) Additionally, she was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Jean loved to garden, bake, and craft many works of art with her sewing and needlework skills, which will be remembered and cherished by many family members. She enjoyed time with family and friends as well as the many travel opportunities throughout her life.
Jean’s life was a testament to love, family, and resilience. She will be missed and remembered by all who knew her.
The family would like to say a special thanks to her caregivers at The Phoenix @ Lake Lanier and to Golden Rule Hospice.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, 1 p.m., at the First Congregational Church in Essex Junction, Vermont, with a reception to follow. Interment will take place on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, 12 p.m., at Riverbank Cemetery, Stowe, Vermont.
