Jill Beyer Obituary

Jill Clarke Beyer, 78, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Jill will forever be remembered for her kind heart, gentle nature, and unwavering compassion and empathy for everyone around her.

Born on March 31, 1947, in Beverly, Massachusetts, Jill was the daughter of Richard L. Clarke and Barbara (Whitaker) Clarke. She graduated from Westbrook College in 1967 and embarked on a distinguished professional journey that reflected her intellect and dedication. Jill worked as a secretary in support of the Physicists of the Advanced Materials Research and Development Laboratory of the CANAL Plant of United Technologies, Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Company, contributing to the development of the JT9D jet engine. She later served as the personal secretary to Dr. Max Tishler at Wesleyan University, the former President of Merck Sharp and Dohme Research Laboratories.

Jill was also a tireless volunteer, working to advocate for others. As a New York State-certified Parent Advocate for children with special needs, she helped countless kids thrive academically and socially. Her community involvement reflected her faith, as she taught Sunday School for the First Congregational Church, led several Girl Scout troops, oversaw governance and fundraising for the Kirkland Art Center in Clinton, NY, and became an active advocate for the American Heart Association. Together with her husband, she co-chaired the Annual Heart Ball in Bloomington, Indiana, setting fundraising records for the cause.

Jill will best be remembered by her friendly, inquisitive nature. She took a sincere interest in people and their lives. She asked questions and listened intently. She made many friends through her curiosity and was always willing to help others with their most difficult challenges. Her selflessness and empathetic nature defined her, making the world a better place. Jill was passionate about gardening and a voracious reader.

Jill’s greatest joy, however, was her family. As a devoted wife to her husband, William H. Beyer, Sr., a loving mother to William H. Beyer, Jr., Geoffrey C. Beyer, and Emily E. Beyer, an adoring grandmother to Lily R. and James W., and a proud mother-in-law to Sara (Mauger) Beyer and Liz (Cotter) Beyer, she found purpose in nurturing and caring for those she loved most.

Jill is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, and daughters-in-law. A celebration of her life will be announced for the early spring in Gainesville, Georgia, with a summer interment to follow in South Dartmouth Cemetery, South Dartmouth, MA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in her memory.
