Jim E Norris, of St Simons Island, was born on January 13, 1939, in Athens, Tennessee, and passed away April 15, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bill and Dwan Norris, and sister June Twarskyski. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Freddie Holman Norris. His 3 daughters, Michele (Marc), Duncan, Wendy (Mark)Ray, Amanda (James) Campos, and one son Brian Butler. He has six grandchildren: Seth, Morgan (Jordan), Bethany (Anthony), Daylan, Cole, Aaron, and Cameron, seven great-grandchildren: Hunter, Hayden, Justus, Steven, Cullen, Paxton and Mya. His brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Robbie Norris, and several nieces, nephews, along with many friends.
After High School in Englewood, Tn, Jim joined the US Army and became a proud member of the 101 st Airborne Screaming Eagles. A graduate of the University of Tennessee and East Tennessee University. Jim was a passionate Tennessee Vol fan. Jim loved the world, his country and helping people. He marched for Civil rights in the 1960’s and was an activist for many causes and charities. Jim worked as a Social Worker with At Risk foster children with the Hall County Department of Family and Children and then with the Gateway Behavioral Health Mental Health Center in Glynn Co and surroundings counties until his retirement. For over 25 years he was a member and Lay reader at Holy Nativity Episcopal Church on St Simons Island,
A visitation with the family will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026, from 11-2 pm, at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 2030 Memorial Park Dr., Gainesville, Ga 30504. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm at Memorial Park Cemetery. Father Stuart Higginbotham will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St Jude’s Hospital, Wounded Warriors, or the charity of one’s choice. All are encouraged to wear Tennessee Orange to visitation in Jim’s honor
