John Gleason, Jr. Obituary

Mr. John Gleason, age 78, of Gainesville, passed on Friday, March 29, 2024 at his residence surrounded by family.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 14, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 4:00pm at the Braselton Funeral Home followed by a memorial service at 4:00pm at the Braselton Chapel with Reverend Ouida Bradford officiating.

Mr. Gleason was born on Thursday, December 20, 1945 to Mr. John Gleason & Mrs. Emily Duff in Louisville, Kentucky. He was retired from AT&T as a Telecom Engineer, and attended Loganville First Baptist Church.  John collected 2,200,304 things during his lifetime. He was known to say he needed to run an errand on Saturday morning then disappear for many hours. He would then wait for Dorothy to nap and sneak his collectibles into the house.   His favorites included Spode and jukeboxes. John was a gentle, quiet man but he was known for his long stories. When he had passion for a topic, he could tell a 6 hour story over a period of 2 days without losing his place or missing a single detail.

John served as a 1st lieutenant in the Army in Korea during the Vietnam War. He was proud of his country and his service.

Most importantly, John was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, and husband.   John made each one of us feel loved and special.   He was always happy to help others. He and Dorothy always gave so much of themselves to care for relatives in need.   John let his light shine in the background, quietly making a difference as often as he could. While no amount of time would have been enough to share with John, we are grateful that he was ours during his time here on Earth. He was a brilliant, incredible man that will be dearly missed.

Mr. Gleason is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Gleason; his son, Scott Gleason (Janet); daughters, Wendy Hammond ( Mackie) and Jennifer Eubanks ( Nathan); sister, Nancy Benson (Lawrence); grandchildren, Shaelyn (David), Madison, Anna (Reese), Samantha, Merritt, and Landry; and great-grandchild, Westyn.  Along with his parents, he is proceeded in death by his brother, Thomas Gleason and his sister, Barbara Mitchell.

Braselton Funeral Home, 5257 Green Street Hwy 53, Braselton, Georgia 30517 is in charge of arrangements.  Send on-line condolences to www.memorialparkfuneralhomes.com.
