John Reed Latty

Mr. John Reed Latty, 86, of Gainesville, passed away Monday, September 18, 2023 at his residence following a sudden illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 22, 2023 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Rev. Drewery Loggins and Mr. Clinton Howard will officiate. Interment will follow in Timber Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Thursday, September 21, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Born on August 23, 1937 in Gainesville, he was the son of the late John Thomas (Buck) Latty and Grace Hawkins Martin He graduated from Air Line High School. He retired from C.W.T. where he was a poultry equipment salesman. He also worked for Cobb Hatchery where he was a field man. Mr. Latty loved cars and fishing. He was also an avid East Hall and Atlanta Braves fan. What he cared for and loved most was his family. His loving wife of 63 years, Becky; his devoted daughter and son in law, Dinah and Jerry and his grandson, John Connor. Mr. Latty was a member of Air Line Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Latty was preceded in death by his sister, Susie Latty Smith.

Mr. Latty is survived by his wife, Rebecca “Becky” Waldrep Latty; daughter and son in law, Dinah and Jerry Winfree of Gainesville; grandson, John Connor Winfree of Gainesville; brother and sister in law, O’Neal (Slick) and Carol Latty and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving relatives.
