Joyce Ellen Schlechtweg, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. A God -fearing woman, Joyce’s love for Jesus was clear to all who knew her. She was gentle, nonjudgemental, and quick to forgive, carrying a kindness that left a lasting impression.
Joyce was born on July 21,1938, in New York to parents Rev. Theodore H. and Dorothy Bushmann. She passed away peacefully at home on April 1,2026 and is now reunited in Heaven with the love of her life.
She is proceeded in death by Bill, her husband of 67 years, her parents, sister and brotherin-law Carol and Bill Woods, and son-in-law Thomas Fleming.
Joyce is survived by daughters Diane Fleming, Susan Bedell (Bob), son Billy Schlechtweg (Kelly), brother Ted Bushmann (Jayne), as well as her nine grandchildren Jenn Duncan (Donny), Rob Bedell (Alli), Theodore H .Bedell (Nicole), Thomas H. Fleming II (Darci), Kerry Fleming, Michael Bedell (Madison), McKenzie Schlechtweg, Delaney Schlechtweg, and Will Schlechtweg, and her seven great grandchildren, Caleigh Nation, Ayden Hoang, Aubrey Fleming, Hart Fleming, Hudson Fleming, Theo Bedell, and Hawkins Fleming.
We also would like to include that she leaves behind many other family and friends near and far.
Joyce and Bill met at church in middle school. Joyce pursued Bill for their first date at the movies. They were married June 28, 1958. They started their lives together in Bronx,NY, then a move to Spring Valley and finally to Sugar Hill, GA.
Joyce was a homemaker. Alongside her beloved husband, Bill, she created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and love – memories that will be treasured for generations. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Italian food was her favorite as well as shopping from Fingerhut. She loved collecting churches, a reflection of her deep faith, and in her later years, spent many peaceful hours coloring, something that brought her comfort and quiet happiness.
Joyce loved Christmas deeply and made it truly special for everyone around her. One of the most cherished traditions was singing “Happy Birthday Jesus” each year, a simple, heartfelt reminder of the true meaning of the season that will live on in the hearts of her family forever.
Joyce, Mom, Grandma.....rest peacefully alongside our Heavenly Father. You truly were an angel here on earth.
