James “Keith” Maxey, 69 (“29 with 40 years of experience!”), of Gainesville, GA, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born on April 2, 1957, in Atlanta, he was the son of the late James and Carolyn Maxey. He grew up in Decatur, attending Druid Hills High School, and was the oldest of five close-knit siblings.
Keith built his career in sales before stepping into business ownership, where he focused on connecting with his community.
Outside of work, Keith was a devoted father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend who cherished time with his family above all else. He had a deep love for cruising and became known as the “cruise director” of the family’s annual trips, bringing humor, energy, and an easygoing spirit that kept everyone laughing.
He is survived by his children, Thomas (Kayla) Maxey and Kathryn (Andrew) Ryals; and his grandchildren, James and Ethan Maxey, and Camille and Harrison Ryals. He is now reunited with his parents, including his beloved mother Carolyn, and his youngest sister Julie.
A private celebration of life to honor him will be planned for a later date.
