Kenneth Jackson, Sr. Obituary

Kenneth Eller “Ken” Jackson Sr., 73, of Braselton, Georgia, and formerly of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away on May 24, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He leaves behind a legacy of quiet joy, intellectual curiosity, and a lifetime of devotion to those he loved.

Ken’s life was anchored by his partnership with his wife, Linda Sherrill Jackson. High school sweethearts who began their journey at fifteen, their almost sixty-year story was the cornerstone of his life. Whether he was proudly escorting Linda to get her driver’s license as a teenager or standing by her side in the decades that followed, Ken lived his life for her. To him, she could truly do no wrong.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Dana and Ed Jackson.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; his son, Kenneth “KE” Jackson Jr.; and his daughter, Frances Underwood (Tom). Ken was immensely proud of the lives his children built and the people they became. In his final years, his greatest joy was found in his grandchildren, Tatum and Roe, for whom he was a steady, gentle presence—a grandfather who truly delighted in being a part of their world. He is also survived by his sister, Rebecca (Becky), and his twin brother, Robert Jackson.

An insatiable reader of three or four books a week, Ken was happiest "doing his thing." He found great peace in the outdoors, whether he was admiring wildflowers in the mountains or enjoying the sun and sand at the beach. A master family historian, he spent decades meticulously tracing his lineage back to the first settlers of Jamestown, a project he approached with the same patience he applied to his stained glass artistry and the same enthusiasm he had for following his favorite sports, especially his beloved Duke Blue Devils.

In his youth, Ken and Robert were standout athletes in Charlotte, both eventually playing football for Duke University on scholarships. A proud member of Alpha Tau Omega, Ken carried those lifelong friendships with him always.

Ken didn't lecture on how to be a good man; he simply showed us by being one. He will be profoundly missed, but his family will take it from here.

A celebration of Ken's life will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Braselton, Georgia, with Pastor Mike Devine officiating. A reception will follow the service in the Braselton Room. For those unable to attend, the service will be live streamed and can be viewed at https://vimeo.com/event/5963924

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ken’s memory to the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia. (www.humanesocietyofnortheastgeorgia.org).
Ken found great joy in the company of cats and leaves behind his faithful companion, Beasley.
