Leon Watson Swindle, 86, passed into the presence of his Savior on Saturday, March 28, 2026.
Leon was born in Madison County and grew up in Commerce, Georgia. He met his wife, Carolyn, while they were both working in the floral industry. They married on June 25, 1960 and would go on to celebrate 65 years together.
Leon and Carolyn were blessed with three sons, Tommy, Terry, and Mark. Leon was a devoted father, coaching his sons’ sports teams and cheering for them on the field and in life. He and Carolyn enjoyed spending time with family, boating, and traveling, with a highlight of their adventures being a trip to Hawaii to celebrate their 15 year wedding anniversary with friends from church.
Leon and Carolyn were members of Blackshear Place Baptist Church where Leon, a sports enthusiast, was very involved with the church softball league both through playing and coaching. They later joined Hopewell Baptist Church and spent time involved in many activities there.
Leon retired after a 35 year career with the United States Postal Service. Known for his friendly and helpful approach at work, Leon was appreciated by his colleagues and the community members he served. In his retirement, Leon enjoyed gardening and cheering on his favorite team, the Georgia Bulldogs. He was thrilled to see them win the national championship twice.
He was preceded in death by his father Tom Watson Swindle, mother Mattie Lou Swindle (née Haggard) and son Tommy. Leon is survived by his wife Carolyn, sons Terry and Mark, daughter-in-laws Michelle and Suzy, granddaughters Katie, Ashley, Everly, and Eliana, and five great grandchildren.
Most importantly, Leon believed in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and his family is comforted by knowing he is with his Heavenly Father.
