Leonard William Rawlins

Mr. Leonard William Rawlins, age 65, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 in Gainesville, Georgia. He was born to the late Norman Peter Rawlins and Winifred Emma Jantz Shippey on March 2, 1960 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Bill was born in Atlanta, Georgia and raised in Chamblee, Georgia. He graduated from Chamblee High School in 1978. He worked a as a Landscaper/Supervisor of Environmental Industries, Inc. for 40 years.

Bill was not a stranger to anyone. He was known and loved by many, he welcomed people with a good story and a warm heart.

Highly knowledgeable of botany and being a Commercial Landscaper, brought out his creative mind and his love of nature in his career. Being a true free spirit, Bill enjoyed the outdoors. He was happiest in the woods or on the water. Hunting deer, rocks or treasures and fishing the Chattahoochee river, the Gulf of Mexico or Lake Lanier brought him enjoyment. As a natural artist throughout his life, he enjoyed sketching, watercolors, leatherwork, photography and landscaping.

Bill enjoyed what this earth gave and what God had to give. 

Married to Denise for 33 years, they raised 2 wonderful children, Mansell and Lizzy. And, with a love for animals enjoyed many family pets. Lived in Cumming, GA for 28 years enjoying family life. Then settling in Gainesville, GA, the rock hunting continued. 

Bill has left this world too soon and is deeply missed.

Mr. Rawlins is preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Peter Norman Rawlins, Judith Allison Shippey, and Bruce Edward Shippey.

He is survived by his wife, Denise Ann Rawlins; children, William Mansell Rawlins, Elizabeth Anna Rawlins (Smith); son-in-law, Vidik Smith; siblings, Hollis Lynn Shippey Wilson (Sonny), Edward Andrew Shippey; along with many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.  

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2025 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family will be receiving friends prior to the service from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM.
