Louise Thompson Morris passed away on February 22, 2026, at the age of 80. She lived her life grounded in faith, trusting God in both joy and hardship.
She was born on September 11, 1945, in Gainesville, Georgia, to James Lawson Thompson and Janie Elizabeth Burgess Thompson. She was raised in Gainesville and graduated from Gainesville High School.
Louise attended Young Harris College and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education with a concentration in Spanish from Georgia Southern University. She later received her Master of Education from the University of Georgia.
She began her career as a Spanish teacher at Stephens County High School and later taught Spanish and language arts at Toccoa Falls Institute, where she worked with international high school students. She went on to serve as a homebound teacher in Stephens County, working with students in grades K–12 who were unable to attend school due to extended illness.
She later served her clients for 43 years as a life and health insurance general agent. Throughout her career, she received numerous honors from the Life Underwriters Training Council, including a lifetime achievement award. One of the moments she treasured most was when her family was secretly brought to the conference and surprised her as she received the award.
Louise was a devoted member of Toccoa First Methodist Church for 59 years. Her contributions were many and lasting. She faithfully taught the Open Door Sunday School class and was among the women who created the altar kneelers in needlepoint, which still grace the church today. She was a longtime member of the Pilot Club of Toccoa, served as president on numerous occasions, and was deeply committed to its mission.
Louise shared nearly 59 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Charlie Morris. Together they built a life rooted in faith and devotion to family.
She is survived by her husband, Charlie Morris; her daughter, Melissa Hardegree of Jefferson; her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Jay Andrews of Sugar Hill; and seven grandchildren, Savannah Bishop (Chandler Ellis), Bryce Bishop, Mason Bishop, Harper Andrews, Emmett Andrews, Jonathan Hardegree (Lauren), and Maddie Grace Brown (Hunter).
