Mrs. Lucille Rita Cornick, 88, of Oakwood passed away Friday, May 1, 2026 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center – Braselton.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Park South Funeral Home, followed by a service in the Chapel.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, James Cornick, her parents Michael and Lavonne, sisters Maxine Elam and Mildred Phillips; brother Harold Warling, nephews Dennis Elam, Victor Elam and niece, Cynthia Maddox.
Mrs. Cornick was born December 3, 1937 to the late Michael & Lavonne (Price) Warling in Dayton, Ohio. She retired from Houghton-Mifflin Publishing.
Mrs. Cornick is survived by her loving family: son, Mike (Jodie) Cornick of Geneva, Illinois; daughters, Karen (Jack) Fromknecht of Hoschton, Chris (Jim) Maechtle of Geneva, Illinois, Kim (Steve) Carlson of Gainesville, Kelli (Tom) Gray of Batavia, Illinois; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 2 great great-children.
Rita loved being a mother and grandmother and was very proud of her children and their families. She enjoyed her Bunco group, Lunch Bunch, antiquing and gardening.
The family would like to thank Northeast Georgia Medical Center staff at Braselton and the inpatient Hospice caregivers for their excellent care and kindness.
