Marcelle Cartee Lewis

Marcelle Cartee Lewis, 86, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away on April 20, 2026.

Born in Metter, Georgia, Marcelle grew up on St. Simons Island and later attended Grady High School in Atlanta. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Georgia State College in 1964. Marcelle devoted her life to raising her sons and working with her husband in their cabinet shop. Known for her curiosity, she excelled at asking questions.

A skilled Southern cook, avid reader, and Atlanta Braves fan, she found the greatest joy in her grandchildren, and she cherished every opportunity to be surrounded by family. In Dunwoody, Marcelle was a dedicated member of Kingswood United Methodist Church, later joining Gainesville First United Methodist Church.

Marcelle is survived by her husband of 64 years, Ronald F. Lewis; sons Ron C. Lewis (Kara) and Rob Lewis (Becca); and grandchildren Christopher Lewis (Alex), Daniel Lewis, and Bowen Lewis. She will be remembered for her warmth, curiosity, and devotion to family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, June 14, 2:00 p.m. at Gainesville First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Gainesville First United Methodist Church Choir.
