Martha Ann Pinson Mooney was born on November 1, 1945, the youngest daughter of Lester and Cora Pinson. She was the only child born at the Chicopee clinic, her delivery paid for with five pounds of sugar.
Martha thrived in the Chicopee community, growing up among friends who would remain dear to her for a lifetime. She was originally meant to board a bus to Gainesville for school registration like her older sister, but when she saw her friends heading to South Hall, she chose to join them. That simple, spontaneous decision changed her life forever, as it was at South Hall that she met her future husband, Stephen Mooney. Their loving marriage endured for 49 years, until they were separated by her passing.
Martha attended North Georgia College, where she cultivated her natural eye for decorating. She turned that talent into a career, especially during her 22 years living on St. Simons Island. Later in life, health challenges, including a kidney transplant, brought her back closer to family, where she lived near her daughter, Kristina.
Though life was often busy, Martha’s greatest joy was her family. She was the devoted mother of three daughters: Michele Elizabeth Mooney, Kristina Mooney Turner, and Stephanie Ann Mooney. Her strong sense of right and wrong, along with her deep faith in God, guided her throughout her life and left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Martha passed away on April 26, 2026, leaving a chasm in the lives of those who loved her that cannot be filled. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Merle Pinson Gaines and Marjorie Pinson Black.
She is survived by her husband, her three daughters, and six grandchildren.
She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
