Mrs. Mary Reese Myers, age 90, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away in her sleep on June 10, 2026.
Mary was born on January 27, 1936, in Jackson, Mississippi and was the daughter of Irene and Ed Reese. She began her career as a teacher in Savannah, Georgia. She took a brief break from teaching to stay home with her two kids, Beth and Ed. She went back to teaching pre-K where she taught many generations of children. There were many families where she taught the parents and their children. She continued working as a teacher until her retirement. Throughout her life, she enjoyed playing golf, traveling, and camping. She attended Gainesville First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the COMET Sunday School Class.
She was proceeded in death by her mother, Irene Elliott Reese, her father Edward Lucious Reese and her husband Albert Grizzel (Buddy) Myers, Jr.
Mary is survived by her son, Nelton Edward (Ed) Myers of Gainesville, daughter-in-law Janell Del Myers of Gainesville, daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Beth) Kiel of Acworth, son-in-law Thomas Michael Kiel of Acworth, grandson, Reese Edward Myers of Gainesville, grandson Adam Christopher Kiel of Acworth, grandson Greyson Elliott Myers of Gainesville and grandson Brady Joseph Kiel of Acworth; and many treasured nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.
Mary would always brighten a room with her smile and laughter. Her spirit will truly be missed by those who knew and loved her. A special thank you to her loving caregivers at The Phoenix at Lake Lanier Senior Living Community.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, June 20 at Gainesville First United Methodist Church in Gainesville with a reception to follow. Rev. Jamey Prickett will officiate.
The family has requested those who desire to donate in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to the Gainesville First United Methodist Church, 2780 Thompson Bridge Road, Gainesville, GA 30506; Humane Society of Northeast Georgia, 845 W.
