In Loving Memory of Michael D O’Connor

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael O’Connor on June 9, 2026, at the age of 69.

Michael was born on August 17, 1956, in Ventura, California. He grew up in Nassau Bay, Texas, as the son of an Army colonel, Harry O’Connor and mother Lena Reed.

Michael joined the United States Army at the age of 17, serving as a 16R Air Defense Specialist. He was stationed in Germany, where he served honorably before receiving an honorable discharge. Following his military service, he remained in Germany and spent more than 10 years building a life and forming lasting connections.

He spent the later part of his life in Gainesville, Georgia, where he put down roots and built a home surrounded by family and friends. Gainesville became the place he called home, where he created countless memories and found joy in the relationships he cultivated over the years. Among his greatest blessings were his three children and five grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense pride and happiness.

Michael is survived by his children William O’Connor, Michael Hollyfield, and Rebecca Acceme; his twin sister, Michelle O’Connor-Bunce and his brother, Boyd Griggs. He will be deeply missed by them and by the many family members and friends who knew him.

As we grieve his loss, we also celebrate his life and the positive impact he had on those around him
