Nelta Alexander (Crump) Jones

Nelta Crump Alexander Jones, age 84, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2026.

 She was a resident of Cresswind at Lake Lanier for 10 years.

Nelta was born in Chester, Virginia, on March 18, 1942, to the late Henry Grady and Blanche Pritchett Crump. As a young woman, she moved to Georgia, where she would spend the remainder of her life building lasting friendships and serving her community. She retired in 1997 from the Georgia Department of Transportation as a Right-of-Way Acquisition Manager, following a distinguished 34-year career. She often spoke of how much she enjoyed her work and the many lifelong friendships she formed there.

She is survived by her devoted son, Byron L. Alexander of Atlanta, Georgia, and numerous nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Shirley C. Bolling; and her brothers, Grady Harold Crump, Lewis F. Crump, and James E. Crump.

Nelta grew up in Hamlet, North Carolina, where she graduated from Hamlet High School. After moving to Georgia, she attended Clayton Junior College in Jonesboro. Upon settling in Gainesville, she became a member of Gainesville, First United Methodist Church and the Comet Class, serving in numerous capacities over the years. Nelta was always known for being stylish and appropriately dressed.

She especially enjoyed planning events for the Comet Class and taking road trips with her friends.

Nelta thrived on always having a project underway-whether in her own home, decorating the homes of family and friends, or planning trips abroad. Her love of travel took her throughout the world. She volunteered for many years at Northeast Georgia Medical Center and remained active in the community.

She loved God, her family, her church, her home, rich colors, estate sales, decorating, entertaining, and preparing meals for those she loved. Her strong work ethic, warmth, and dependability earned the lasting respect of her family, colleagues and friends.

Celebration of Life will be held at Gainesville First United Methodist Church, 2780 Thompson Bridge Road, Gainesville, Georgia 30506, on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at 2:00 pm. A reception will follow in the Gathering Room, Inurnment to follow at the Alexander family cemetery plot in Roopville, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Comet Class at Gainesville First United Methodist Church, 2780 Thompson Bridge Road, Gainesville, Georgia, 30506.
