Phyllis Elaine Stancil, 76, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 24th, 2026, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a sudden illness, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Celebration of life services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, May 1, 2026, at Memorial Park Riverside Chapel. The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 1:00 pm at the funeral home.
A devoted wife, mother, sister, and cherished “Nana,” Phyllis went to be with her Lord and Savior, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering faith.
Phyllis was born on October 18, 1949, in Jefferson, Georgia, to George Owen Webb and Rachel Virginia “Ginny” Webb. She grew up surrounded by family, treasuring time spent on trips and making lifelong memories with her sisters and cousins.
A 1967 graduate of Jefferson High School, Phyllis enjoyed spending time with friends at her family’s restaurant, where her warm and welcoming personality was evident even then. In 1969, she married the love of her life, Horace David Stancil, and together they shared 57 beautiful years of marriage built on love, faith, and devotion.
Phyllis dedicated many years of her life as a family childcare provider in Athens, Georgia, where she lovingly cared for countless children and built lasting relationships with the families she served. To Phyllis, no one was a stranger, everyone was family, and many remained close to her throughout her life.
After retiring, Phyllis found her greatest joy in spending time with her husband, daughters, grandchildren, and her Riverbend church family. She had a gift for making everyone feel seen, valued, and loved. Known for her vibrant, charismatic personality, she was always the one to check in, offer encouragement, and brighten someone’s day.
Phyllis will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Phyllis is survived by her loving husband, H. David Stancil; daughters, Tiffany Wiley and Stephanie Clark; grandchildren, Courtney Wiley, Cooper Clark and Chloe Clark; great-grandchildren, Easton Whidby and Grayson Whidby; sister, Thelma Jo Stephens; sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and Jim Webb; cousins, Kathy Ellington and Scotty Webb and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
