Mr. Richard Arlen Pinion, 86, of Hoschton, passed away on May 30, 2026. He was born at Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta on October 31, 1939, the only child of Stoy and Ruby Pinion.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Chestnut Mountain Presbyterian Church.
Richard is survived by Karon, his wife of 60 years, sons Brett (Rossel), and Mark (Deanna), grandchildren Ashley (Anthony), John (Ellie), and Anna Marie (Austin), week-old great-grandson Harrison, and many cousins.
Richard graduated from Hapeville High School where he was on the varsity football team as a Hapeville Hornet for three years. He also threw the shot-put placing 2nd in the State. Richard was a leader in ROTC in both high school and at the University of Georgia. College graduation was followed by 2 years in the Army where he was stationed in Germany, then served 4 years in the Reserves.
Richard’s career was in insurance claims. He worked for INA which became Cigna. He began as a claims adjuster, went on to be an office manager, then claims specialist.
Richard was a member of Chestnut Mountain Presbyterian Church for 19 years. He enjoyed his church friends, loved his family, UGA football and playing a friendly game of poker. He became ill with dementia and spent his final years at The Phoenix at Braselton where he received excellent care from the staff and from Golden Rule Hospice.
He was much loved and will be greatly missed!
