Robert “Bob” Preston Evans, age 82 of Marietta, formerly of Gainesville, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2025 following an extended illness.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 from 4:00pm-8:00pm at the funeral home. Graveside services with United States Military Honors, will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025 at 10:30am at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia with Reverend Glenn Ray officiating
Bob was born May 21, 1943 in Vincent, Alabama to Charles Henry and Lois Hornbuckle Evans. He played football for the Vincent High School Yellow Jackets. After graduation, Bob played football for the University of Georgia, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Education. He served in the United States Army HHC 2nd Bn 63d Armor 1st Infantry Division during the Vietnam War, where he received numerous decorations, medals, badges and commendations.
Upon completing his tour of duty, Coach Evans pursued his teaching and coaching career, beginning at Jefferson High School from 1970-1975; Chambers Academy in Lafayette, Alabama where he was the head coach of the football team from 1975-1981. Coach moved his family to Gainesville in 1981, where he would continue his teaching and coaching career at East Hall High School in Gainesville, GA as the Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach, completing his coaching career in 2001. Coach Evans touched more lives, on and off the football field, than he will ever know through his teaching and coaching.
Coach Evans is survived by the love of his life for 56 years, Carol Evans; his daughter and son-in-law, Karen Evans Hays and Tony Hays; son and daughter-in-law, John and Vicki Evans; grandchildren, Merritt Hays, Preston Evans, Mollie Evans and Peyton Evans; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and June Evans; Ray and Annett Evans, sister, Sandy Evans; sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Johnny Carden as well as multiple nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Charles Evans and his sister, Edith Ann Davidson.
