Roland "Ron" Jaeh Obituary

Roland (Ron) Heinz Jaeh, a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, passed away peacefully at his residence in Hoschton, Georgia, on January 20, 2026, after courageously battling liver disease for the past five years. He was born on May 7, 1944, in Dresden, Germany, to Heinz Jaeh and Ruth Jaeh, who preceded him in death.

Ron is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 55 years, Yoko Jaeh; his son, Matthew Jaeh (Erica); and his cherished grandchildren, Kellen and Lillian Jaeh, who lovingly knew him as “Opa.” He is also survived by his sister, Gabriel Layman (Doug), of San Diego, California, and their three children.

A remarkable man of resilience, courage, determination, and patriotism, Ron dedicated his life to the service of others. His distinguished career in the United States Navy spanned 39 years of active duty, including ten years as an enlisted sailor, before retiring at the rank of Captain. Among his many accomplishments, Ron was the first Limited Duty Officer selected to screen for Aviation Major Shore Command. He received multiple Legions of Merit, and under his leadership, his command was awarded the Navy’s Meritorious Unit Commendation as the best training command in the Navy.

Following his military retirement, Ron continued his commitment to service by spending 11 years at San Diego City College as Dean for Military Training, where he made a lasting impact on the lives of countless young people.

Beyond his family and friends, Ron had many passions, including fitness—completing five marathons—tennis, pickleball, fishing, and cars. Most recently, he found great joy driving his NC Miata with the Peachtree Miata Club. He was an active member of Celebration Church and generously offered his leadership to numerous clubs and committees within his community.

Though he is no longer with us, Ron’s lessons, actions, and legacy will continue to shape lives for years to come.
