Rosalind Bowles Obituary

Rosalind David Bowles, age 88, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, in Gainesville, Georgia. Rosalind was born in Athens, Georgia, on December 7, 1937, to the late Roswell Michael David, Sr. and Coretta Dye David.

Rosalind cherished her years spent with her first husband, the late John “Johnny” Hubert Mitchell, Jr., along with family and friends at Lake Burton. She loved playing golf with her mother and friends at the Athens Country Club and was an active member of the Athens Junior League. Her life centered around her family, spending countless hours attending YMCA activities, school events, and supporting her four children in all aspects of their lives.

In 1982, Rosalind married Paul Bowles, Jr. and gracefully embraced her new role of blending and loving a family of eight children as one united family. Her love for God and family was a constant light in her everyday life.

Rosalind and Paul later moved to Amelia Island Plantation, where they enjoyed their retirement years playing many rounds of golf, lots of traveling the world, fellowship, and community. They were devoted members and supporters of the Amelia Plantation Chapel. Rosalind especially loved spending time with her CBS Bible Study group, her supper club friends, playing Mahjong, baking chocolate chip cookies, hosting her children and grandchildren for Amelia Island getaways, riding bikes and dining out with Paul.

Rosalind is survived by her devoted husband, Paul Bowles, Jr. of Gainesville, Georgia; her brother, Roswell Michael David, Jr. of Kennesaw, Georgia; and her four children: John “Jay” Hubert Mitchell III and wife Lynn of Dunwoody, Georgia; David Wiley Mitchell and wife Mary of Gainesville, Georgia; Dennis Lee Mitchell and wife Amy of Dunwoody, Georgia; and Lyn Mitchell LaVallee and husband Jim of Sandy Springs, Georgia; as well as Thayer Bowles Bates and husband Carter of Atlanta, Georgia; Ansley Bowles Perno and husband John of Athens, Georgia; Paul Bowles III of Athens, Georgia and Travis Bowles Dew and husband Tommy of Charleston, South Carolina. She was also blessed with 18 grandchildren and 16 Great-grandchildren, and 8 nieces and nephews, all of whom brought her immense joy and pride throughout her life.

There will be a small family-only service at Lanier Village. The couple wishes to be buried together at the same time at Oconee Hill Cemetery in Athens, Georgia. That day will be determined at a later date.
